I stumbled upon a hidden gem tucked away in the Bitec Bangna food court – TongMon Thai-Isan! Now, I know what you’re thinking – a food court for Isan food? Surprisingly, yes!
While fancy restaurants have their charm, sometimes you just crave that authentic, no-frills taste of Isaan cuisine. So, I decided to give TongMon Thai-Isan a try.
Ambiance and Service
Now, let’s be honest, the Bitec Bangna food court isn’t exactly known for its ambiance. It’s a bustling space with lots of different food options, so don’t expect a quiet, intimate dining experience. However, the staff at TongMon Thai-Isan were incredibly friendly and helpful. They patiently explained the menu items, even offering recommendations based on my preferences.
The Food: A Celebration of Isaan Flavors
The star of the show, for me, was definitely the som tam woonsen (green papaya salad with glass noodles). It had the perfect balance of sweet, sour, spicy, and salty flavors. The papaya itself was perfectly crisp, and the addition of crunchy peanuts and dried shrimp added a delightful textural contrast. The grilled beef was equally delicious.

Another dish that truly impressed me was the larb moo (minced pork salad). The pork was beautifully seasoned and cooked to perfection, retaining its juicy tenderness. The accompanying vegetables added a refreshing touch, and the optional sticky rice on the side was the perfect accompaniment to soak up all the delicious flavors.
The Verdict: A Delicious Discovery
Overall, my experience at TongMon Thai-Isan was a delightful surprise. While the food court setting might not be for everyone, the friendly service and, more importantly, the delicious and authentic Isan food, definitely make it worth a visit. If you’re looking for a quick and casual bite of Isaan cuisine at Bitec Bangna, I highly recommend giving TongMon Thai-Isan a try!
Pro tip: Don’t forget to ask about their daily specials! You might just discover a hidden gem on the menu.
